Dr Pansy Duncan
Senior Lecturer
Doctoral Supervisor School of Humanities Media and Creative CommI work at the intersection of film aesthetics, media history, political economy and eco-materialist media studies, with an emphasis on early cinema.
My articles on film aesthetics and film history have been published in a number of venues, including Screen, JCMS, PMLA, and Cultural Critique, and my 2018 essay in Screen, “Exploded Views,” won the 2020 Katherine Singer Kovács Essay Award from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies. I am the author of two books: The Emotional Life of Postmodern Film (Routledge, 2016) and Screening the Posthuman, co-written with Missy Molloy and Claire Henry (OUP, 2023). My current project is an eco-materialist counter-history of early Euro-American film aesthetics, funded by a Marsden grant from the Royal Society Te Apārangi.
