Mr Walker’s research examined Genetic Programming, a technique in the field of Artificial Intelligence, which utilises a form of artificial evolution to solve complex problems. Mr Walker developed statistical methods for the measures used to assess the computational effort required by the use of Genetic Programming. He then developed an incremental evolution method and an early termination policy for the Genetic Programming field. Both of these were shown, using the methods and measures Mr Walker developed, to offer statistically significant benefits beyond the standard approach. Mr Walker’s results have improved our understanding of the process of developing automatic solutions to complex problems.
