Dr Mia Pham PhD. Finance
Senior Lecturer in Finance
Doctoral Supervisor School of Economics and FinanceDr. Mia Pham joined Massey Business School in 2020 as a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor). Prior to joining Massey, Mia was previously affiliated with the University of Otago, Monash University, Saint Mary's University, National Economics University, and a local investment bank in Vietnam. She received a Ph.D. in Finance from Monash University, Australia, and was awarded the Monash Postgraduate Publication Award for research excellence.
Her research interests are corporate governance, financial accounting, corporate finance, and capital markets, with recent work focusing on executives' characteristics and corporate behavior, culture and finance, climate change and capital markets, credit risk, corporate disclosure, and financial accounting. Mia has published in internationally respected journals such as The Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, The European Accounting Review, and Journal of Business Ethics (Financial Times Top 50 Journals or A* Journals according to ABDC Journal Rank). Mia has won several Best Paper Awards (such as CFA Institute ARX Best Paper Awards at New Zealand Finance Colloquiums in 2022 and 2023) and competitive research grants (such as AFAANZ Research Grants, Strategic Research Excellence Funds, Massey University REaDI Funds, or MURF Grants). Mia is the winner of the Top Research Output Awards (School of Economics and Finance) in 2021 and 2023, Massey Business School Star Award- Excellence in Research Impact in 2022, and MSA Charitable Trust MBS Research Excellence Award in 2023.
Mia is a passionate and engaged educator and has taught a wide range of finance and accounting units in both postgraduate and undergraduate programs. Her teaching quality has been demonstrated by consistently high evaluation scores (generally, 100% of students are satisfied with teaching quality). She is the winner of the 2023 Massey Business School’s Special Achievement in Teaching Award.
Mia is the Director of the Master of Finance (M.FIN) Program (Auckland campus). She serves as the Associate Editor/ Guest Editor of several journals. She has reviewed manuscripts for a number of journals and conferences, such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions, and Money, International Business Review, International Review of Financial Analysis, Small Business Economics, American Business Review, EFA Annual Meetings, FMA Annual Conferences, among others.
