Dr Harvey Nguyen PhD

Harvey is a Senior Lecturer over the bar at the School of Economics and Finance, Massey University. Harvey received a Ph.D. in Finance from Monash University, Australia where he was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Commendation for Thesis Excellence. His research interests are sustainable finance, corporate governance, capital markets, and behavioral finance, with recent works focusing on climate change and capital markets, labor finance, fund management, corporate social responsibility, and financial accounting. Harvey has published in leading academic and practitioner-based journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, The European Accounting Review, Journal of Business Ethics, International Business Review, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, International Review of Economics and Finance, Accounting and Finance, Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, Applied Economics, among others. His research has been presented at over 80 conferences/seminars and won a number of competitive research grants and Best Paper Awards, such as the Boyle, Lally, and Rose Trophy for the Best Overall Paper at the 2020 New Zealand Finance Colloquium, the NZX Best Paper Award for Practical Implications to Capital Markets in 2021, and the CFA Institute ARX Best Paper Awards in 2022 and 2023. Harvey won the Massey University College Research Distinction Award- Early Career in 2021 and Top Research Output Awards, Massey School of Economics and Finance in 2023.

Harvey has taught a wide range of topics, including Corporate Finance, Financial Modelling, Financial Risk Management, Financial Management Theory, Quantitative Methods for Accounting and Finance, Case Studies on Financial Management and Sustainable Finance, Business Finance, and Investment Analysis at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His teaching quality has been demonstrated by high student evaluation scores (95-100%) and the Nomination for Lecturer of the Year Award. Harvey has supervised 19 high-degree research students (Ph.D. and  Master students) and has been an examiner/assessor for over 140 PhD/ Master/Honour research theses in finance, accounting, and data analytics. His research students have published in internationally recognized finance journals and won prestigious research awards, such as the Dean’s List of Exceptional Theses and the Best Ph.D. Paper Awards at the New Zealand Finance Colloquiums.

Harvey is the Director of Doctoral Studies (Economics and Finance- Auckland campus), Deputy Director of Massey University's Sustainability and CSR Research Group, and Finance Research Seminar Coordinator. Harvey is a Senior Lecturer over the bar at Massey Business School.
